This past year has been a formative one for me.
Since my partner and I decided to move to the other side of the world, I have made a lot of changes, leaving the comfort and security of home to try live in a completley new setting. It has been exciting, different, and uncomfortable at times, but I don’t regret it for a second.
Why?
The first reaction I get from people when I tell them where I am from is almost always the same one: Why would you do that?
The answer is: Why not? My partner and I were in a fortunate position where we both wanted to travel and experience new things, and had the means to do so. New Zealand is an amazing country: beautiful landscape, great people, easy living, but the opportunity to move across the world and broaden our horizons was too good to pass up.
The challenge to move to the other side of the world and build a life for myself was an exciting one, and after 6 months of living in London, I can safely say that it is a challenge that I am glad I took.
Winter
The loss of the sun, and the neverending damp that envelops the city for months took some getting used to, and definitely didn’t aide me in my search for a job.
The market is tough.
Despite my constant grind, endless search, and neverending applications for a job in IT, much like winter, my harvest remains fruitless. However, I remain hopefull, knowing that, much like winter, this too shall pass.
I am hopeful, and ready, to make this coming year one to remember. After leaving the comfort of home, with family, friends, and familar places, I look forward to creating a new and exciting place for myself in this big wide world.
And what a beautiful place to do it.
